Rail Freight Growth Target Call for Evidence

Closes 27 Sep 2022

Opened 5 Jul 2022

The purpose of this call for evidence is to develop an understanding of how much of the current and future market demand for freight could be met by rail, and the role rail can play in the nation’s supply chains.

The call for evidence will help us to understand the realistic volume of goods that could be transferred to rail; where the potential for future rail freight traffic exists and where new rail terminals could be needed. We want to understand the freight industry’s ambitions and challenges, as well as what your current perceptions are of engaging with the rail industry. The call for evidence is a pivotal next step in achieving our mode shift ambitions.

We also want to get views and ideas from stakeholders beyond the freight and logistics sectors on how a future growth target can be designed and measured; how effective the target will be at incentivising growth; and how to increase the amount of freight that is moved by rail. Your responses will be used to inform future rail freight growth target options for the rail network.
